Already a while ago we cleared up the living room. the DVD-Player and the Receiver had to be removed from the living-room for the time being. Its not that good when the receiver blocks 1/3 of the width of the door. They sit in the office for the moment. Once the TV hangs on the wall, they will have space on the TV-shelf. Althought the DVD player is quite old and has its ticks (the tray doesn’t stay open, so you have to be quick).

Apart from the blocked door, we still have another issue. Every now and then I play with the idea of surprising my girlfriend with a nice candle-lit dinner. On other occasions, I invite friends around for dinner. For me this is a very honest an sincere way to show someone that you like them. the Friends-part usually happens in summer, because then we can use the garden we share with the other parties in the house. Ok, it always involves quite some work to carry everything down 4 stories and around the house. Same thing if someone would like to use the bathroom. At least there’s a Tree, but we’ll leave that. :-)

You might ask what my problem is. Thats quite simple: We don’t have room for a dining table. And that slowly gets to me. The only way to solve this problem would be to throw out the bedsofa and put a extendable table there. I could imagine that a two-placer extendable to 4 places would just fit in nicely. OK, the plant next to the balcony door would have to go too, but that one is dying anyway. We even saw a matching table. I understand the Argumentation that throwing away the bed-sofa is not the best option. It’s not old and wasn’t cheap when we bought it. And it’s very handy when you have guests staying the night (which doesn’t happen very often as we can’t invite anyone for dinner).

It will need some consideration and quite a few discussions until we find a solution what should happen with the sofa. Maybe her brother would take it for a while?

It is commonly known, that burglars won’t visit your house if the light is on every now and then. When you’re on Holiday, the task of switching the light on and off can be given to a automatic timer. Usually you can only program a time of day, which repeats every 24 hours. Too bad that burglars know that too. So if one surveys a house a few evenings, one notices that the light will switch on precisely at 6:30pm and off at 11:00pm, for example.

FakeTV is the newest Invention of faking being at home and thus keeping burglars away. Honestly, it made me grin :-)

I must join the german left-wing party “Die Linke” ! OK, there are some obstacles to overcome. First of all, I’m not a german citizen, nor do I live in germany. I can’t identify myself with the parties goals either…

Some party-members launched the request that the communication between party-members is to be improved. This can be achieved using forums on the internet. To ensure that every member of the party can access these forums, the party should equip them with a “Student Laptop”, the Eee-PC from ASUS for example.

Based on a need of 100′000 units, the requestors are sure, the party could push the unit price even below €300. Sounds like a good price.

Another Advantage would be, that party-elections could be carried out directly by the base of the party, like a direct democracy known in switzerland and Estland. Sounds great.

Buying 100′000 Units would roughly cost €30m. Unfortunately the requestors don’t suggest a way on how to bring up that money, but if the party did, it would “save local jobs”. Aaah, the good old left-wing social thinking.

This post is to be understood in a satirical way and does not reflect my political position in any way. I find it forward-thinking to use new technologies and very noble to save local jobs. Only gotcha is, that its a bit far from reality that a young party can bring up €30m just like that.

As already mentioned, we bought two new sideboard-style shelves for the office. they fit nicely between the existing ones and under the Whiteboard. Only thing is the wood-color doesn’t exactly match (beech vs. birch). But hey, at least I don’t have a black typewriter-table and a brown computer table anymore :-) .

I’ve thrown out quite some stuff out, and so everything fits in the new cabinets. The doors almost close ;) . Next task is to bring some structure in my paper-work. Printing binder-labels and stuff like that. No more shuffling through binders anymore now.

Oh yes, and I’ve started to fill out my Tax Report as well. I’m quite early this year, only 6 Weeks late

Do you know how it feels when you come home and you got that itch in your left little finger that feels like party. You don’t want to bother setting everything up? Well, here’s the solution to that:

And with this one, you don’t even have to call your friends. Party guests are built-in!

I’m Interested in building automation and living-room technology. I might even build in a button like that one day :-D

I was browsing through Exsila to check whats new and if there might be a bargain. Then i saw this:

For those who don’t know Exsila: 1 Exsila-Point is worth approx. 1 CHF. You can get the game for CHF 99.– in its bright wrapping from your local shop…

What do these guys think? That someone will fall for it and pay almost triple the price for a USED Game?

What would life be without the little inventions, which eventually impacted our lives in a major way?

Imagine, you are a scientist in a leading chemistry company and are working on a new type of adhesive. It should be super-strong and should stick in seconds. You come up with a sample adhesive that develops its adhesing function when pressure is applied. unfortunately the adhesion is not very strong. You can simply pull the glued items apart again. The sample is marked as a failure.

Now imagine you are a pastor in a church. almost every mass, your bookmarks fall out of your bible or hymnal. Not a pretty situation when you stand in front of the people expecting you to say someting….

The pastor and the scientist met, and from now on the pastor had re-usable sticky bookmarks. And the scientist finally found a purpose for his “failed” adhesive.

Today, the bookmarks are omni-present in our daily lives, and nowadays are called Post-it.

Sometimes people have an ingenious idea, like Nojae Park from Yanko Design with the Yoghurt-Spoon. I Wonder when I’ll see that attatched to my yoghurt :-)
